CEO Pat Kinsel founded Proof after his own experience trying to notarize a document. He is on a mission to bring trust online with notarization that’s simpler, smarter and safer than paper. Pat was previously a partner at Polaris Partners. Before joining Polaris and founding Proof, Pat was a co-founder & CEO of Spindle until it was acquired by Twitter in June 2013. Previously, he was at Microsoft incubating new concepts and bringing them to market. Pat serves on the board of Lob and was the lead investor in Drizly. He is also a member of TechStars Boston, Harvard’s Innovation Lab and SparkLabs Korea.

As Chief Technology Officer, Eric is responsible for engineering at Proof. He leads our technical strategy and development of our platform with deep expertise in building mission-critical systems that support millions of customers. Eric has over 22 years of experience in both product development and engineering. Prior to joining Proof, Eric spent 8 years at DocuSign as the Chief Architect, where he was responsible for the core platform, which provided carrier-grade availability and bank-grade security. He lead platform investments from as the company grew from $30M to $2B in revenue, and through its IPO. Prior to DocuSign, Eric spent 10 years at Microsoft working on large-scale distributed systems, including some of the largest identity systems in the world, including Microsoft Account and Active Directory.

Chief Legal Officer
As Chief Legal Officer, Renée Hunter leads the legal, government affairs, regulatory compliance, privacy, and risk management teams that enable adoption of Proof's products in all 50 states. She has spent much of her career working with legislators, regulators, and industry partners across the country to develop consistent, sound laws and regulations for online notarization and digital commerce. Renée is an active member of the American Bar Association's technology, privacy, and real property law committees and serves on the State Bar of Michigan's Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. She is a member of Women in Identity and a charter member of L-Suite, and serves as treasurer of the board of directors of the Kantara Initiative.

John Heasman is the Chief Information Security Officer at Proof, where he leads the company's information security and IT programs. A 22-year veteran of the field, John has turned Proof's own environment into a proving ground for its approach to identity verification. His perspective is shaped by hands-on research into how identity fraud actually operates—from help desk social engineering to the dark web marketplaces that fuel it. Before Proof, John spent more than five years as CISO at Chegg. Earlier, he spent five years at DocuSign, where he built out the application security team and other functions within the security organization before becoming Deputy CISO. He co-authored The Shellcoder's Handbook (2nd ed.) and The Database Hacker's Handbook, and has presented at Black Hat, DEF CON, and OWASP AppSec on topics ranging from web application security to firmware threats. He holds a master's degree from the University of Oxford.

As Chief Privacy Officer, Gary Weingarden leads privacy and AI compliance strategy at Proof, drawing on more than 30 years of multi-jurisdictional experience in data protection, technology, and compliance law. Before joining Proof, Gary served as Privacy Officer and Director of IT Security Compliance at Tufts University and spent more than a decade in senior privacy and legal roles at Notarize and the Rocket family of companies, including as General Counsel for Rocket Auto and Rock Connections. Gary holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and certifications spanning privacy, security, audit, and AI governance, including CIPP, CIPM, CISM, CISSP-ISSMP, CDPSE, and AIGP. He writes and speaks frequently on privacy, cybersecurity, and the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence.

During his tenure, he led the Agreement Cloud Platform Product Management team responsible for the Identity, Enterprise, Developer Experience, and Workflow capabilities. Additionally, he built DocuSign Identify which included products like Knowledge Base Authentication (KBA), Identity Document Verification (IDV), SMS, and digital signatures. Earlier in his career, he spent 6+ years at Microsoft shipping consumer technology like Windows 8 and numerous versions of Skype/Windows Live Messenger.
