Apply a Template to an Uploaded Document – Proof Help Center
Organizations in real estate transactions can now, once enabled by their Customer Success Manager, manually select a specific template to apply tags and designations to each uploaded document individually—overriding the previous default automatic matching system and replacing the former global "Disable Document Auto-Tag" option—thereby providing more precise control especially for scanned documents, with this feature applying only to future transactions.
Audience: Organizations (Real Estate/Title)
When uploading a document to a real estate transaction, you can now select a specific template to apply its tags and designations directly, instead of relying only on automatic template matching.
Note: This feature is off by default and must be requested and enabled by your Customer Success Manager (CSM). Once enabled, the template picker appears automatically in the document upload modal and applies to future transactions only.
How It Works
After uploading a document, you'll have three options for how it's tagged:
-
Use automatic matching
- If split-and-tag is enabled on your account, the system will attempt to find a matching template on its own. This is the default behavior if you don't choose an option below.
-
Select a template
- Search for and select a specific template from your organization. The template's tags and designations are copied onto your uploaded document at the same coordinates configured on the template. This is helpful for scanned documents, which automatic matching often can't tag correctly.
-
Select no template
- Skip template matching and tagging entirely for this document. Useful for documents that don't need any pre-set tags.
Note: For real estate transactions, automatic matching runs after you make your selection on this screen. Choosing "Select a template" or "Select no template" here determines whether automatic matching is attempted at all.
What Changed
Previously, the Add Documents window included a Disable Document Auto-Tag checkbox, which turned off template matching for every document in the upload at once. This checkbox has been removed.
Now, you choose per document whether to use automatic matching, select a specific template, or apply no template. This gives you more granular control over each file in a multi-document upload.
Not to be confused with: This feature lets you apply a template's tags to a document you upload. If you want to add one of your saved templates as its own document in a transaction, see the article on selecting an existing document template for an individual transaction.
Summary Checklist
- After uploading a document, choose automatic matching, select a template, or no template.
- Selecting a template copies its tags onto your document at the same coordinates—helpful for scanned files.
- The old Disable Document Auto-Tag checkbox is gone—use no template per document instead.
- Currently available to Real Estate/Title customers only—Business support is coming soon.
