Cancel a Transaction – Proof Help Center

The Proof Help Center guide for organizations explains that transactions can be permanently cancelled only if they have been sent but not completed—such as when sent to the wrong email, signer count changes, duplicates, or document changes—while errors like incorrect tag placement or witness needs should be corrected during the notary meeting; it details which transactions are cancellable (real estate expired, business sent but incomplete), how to cancel via the Transaction Actions menu in the Proof account, and emphasizes that cancellation is irreversible and inaccessible to customers.

Audience: Organizations

You can cancel a sent transaction that hasn't been completed yet — but cancellation is permanent and can't be undone. If the error can be fixed during the notary meeting, do that instead.

Cancelling vs. Correcting During the Meeting

  • If the transaction hasn't been sent yet, you can edit or delete the draft rather than cancelling.
  • Depending on your organization's settings, it may be possible to correct errors during the meeting using notary tools.

Cancel when:

  • The transaction was sent to the incorrect email address
  • The number of signers has changed
  • A duplicate transaction was created
  • Documents have changed

Correct during the meeting when:

  • The signer needs to use a witness
  • The tags were placed incorrectly

Cancelling a transaction is not reversible. Cancelled transactions are no longer accessible to your customers.

Which Transactions Can Be Cancelled

  • Real Estate: Expired transactions only
  • Business: Sent but not yet completed

You can also edit transactions that haven't been attempted by signers yet. If editing isn't possible, determine whether the error can be corrected during the meeting before cancelling.

How to Cancel a Transaction

  1. 1.Log in to your Proof account.
  2. 2.Select Transactions from the left navigation menu, then find and open the desired transaction.
  3. 3.Select the Transaction Actions button in the upper right corner of Transaction Details.
  4. 4.Select Cancel transaction, then select Delete in the confirmation pop-up. You'll return to your Transactions page once the transaction is deleted.

Summary Checklist

  • Confirm the transaction has been sent but not completed.
  • Determine whether the error can be corrected during the meeting instead.
  • Cancel from Transaction Details using the Transaction Actions menu.
