Edit a Business Transaction – Proof Help Center

The Proof Help Center explains that organizations can edit business transactions only while they are in Sent status—editing temporarily moves the transaction to Draft without changing recipients' existing access links, and after making changes via the Transaction actions menu and confirming with Update transaction, recipients are notified unless edits are merely saved without updating; however, these steps do not apply to real estate transactions, which require a different process.

Audience: Organizations

The short answer: You can edit a sent transaction to change details — but only while it's still in Sent status. Editing moves the transaction to Draft temporarily, and recipients keep their existing link.

Note: If you are a title agent or working on a real estate transaction, these steps do not apply. Please follow the Recall a Real Estate Transaction guide instead.

Which Transactions Can Be Edited

You can only edit transactions that are in the Sent status. If the recipient has begun the transaction and the status has moved to Attempted, you cannot edit it.

The option to edit will not appear in the Transaction actions menu if the transaction cannot be edited.

How It Works

When you edit a transaction, it is moved into Draft status. If the recipient tries to access the transaction while it's being edited, they receive a message indicating that updates are being made.

  • Recipients of the transaction will not be sent a new transaction link when edits are made. Their existing link will function normally after the edits are finalized.
  • If new recipients are added to the transaction, they will be sent a transaction access link.

Edit a Transaction

  1. 1.Log in to your Proof account.
  2. 2.Click Transactions from the navigation on the left.
  3. 3.Find and open the transaction you'd like to edit.
  4. 4.Click Transaction actions in the upper right corner.
  5. 5.Select Edit transaction.
  6. 6.Make the desired changes.
  7. 7.Click Update transaction to confirm and send the changes to recipients.

You can save your edits without sending by clicking Save changes, but recipients won't be notified of any updates until you click Update transaction.

Summary Checklist

  • Confirm the transaction is in Sent status before editing
  • Open the transaction and click Transaction actions
  • Select Edit transaction, make changes, then click Update transaction
