Fill Out Documents Before a Meeting – Proof Help Center
The Proof Help Center explains that with the "Sign Ahead" feature, users can fill out text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, and dates on non-notarized documents before meeting with a notary, but cannot complete fields or signatures on notarized documents until the meeting, and after completing all available pre-meeting fields, users select "Next document" to review others and then "Continue" to verify identity and join the notary meeting.
The short answer: You may be able to fill out and even sign documents before meeting with a notary, depending on what the sender allows. This is called Sign Ahead.
How it works
Some organizations allow signers to fulfill fields before meeting with a notary. You may be able to fill in text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, and dates. You may also be able to sign documents that do not require notarization.
You cannot fill out any fields or signatures on documents that require notarization.
What you'll see
When you access the transaction, the documents open and you'll see how many remaining requirements need to be fulfilled before the meeting in the upper right corner of the document preview.
Step 1 — Select Next document
After you fulfill all available requirements, you'll see "All fields complete" in the upper right corner. Select Next document to review the remaining documents in the package.
Step 2 — Select Continue
Once all available fields across all documents are completed, select Continue in the upper right corner to verify your identity and join the meeting with your notary.
The Continue button only appears after all available pre-meeting fields are fulfilled. Fields on notarized documents will still need to be completed during the meeting.
Summary Checklist
- You can fill in text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, and dates — but not fields on documents requiring notarization.
- Once all available fields are complete, select Next document to review remaining documents.
- Select Continue to proceed to identity verification and meet with a notary.
