Proof Academy Assessments Overview

The Proof Academy Assessments guide details two 20-question multiple-choice tests—Notary Skills Assessment (state law knowledge) and Proof Platform Certification (platform features)—required or recommended based on notary capacity, with an 80% passing score, unlimited attempts, and preparation advice emphasizing review of state-specific notarial laws and educational materials.

Audience: All notaries

This guide walks you through accessing and completing Proof Academy assessments, understanding your results, and retaking assessments if needed.

About the Assessments

Proof Academy's assessments are designed to evaluate your knowledge of state notarial laws, regulations, and the Proof platform. There are two assessments:

  • Notary Skills Assessment — Assesses your knowledge as a notary and is a prerequisite to accessing Proof platform training courses.
  • Proof Platform Certification Assessment — Covers Proof platform features and functionality. Complete this after your training to earn your Proof Platform Certificate.

Each assessment consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you must score 80% or higher. You have unlimited attempts.

Prepare for the Notary Skills Assessment

The Notary Skills Assessment has two versions:

  • For notaries in NST states: covers general notary knowledge.
  • For notaries in ODN states: includes state-specific regulations.

Both assessments draw from guidance by the National Notary Association and Help Center articles outlining state guidelines.

It is strongly recommended to thoroughly review all educational materials provided by your commissioning state's office before taking the assessment.

Before the Assessment

  • Make sure your internet connection is strong and reliable. A hard-wired connection is ideal if possible.
  • Use Google Chrome as your browser — it's the preferred browser for completing the assessment.
  • Set aside enough uninterrupted time to complete all 20 questions in one sitting.

During the Assessment

  • You cannot navigate between questions, so make sure you're confident in your answer before moving on.
  • If you exit mid-attempt, your current question will be locked. When you come back, you will continue where you left off.

After the Assessment

  • Your score will appear on the reporting page at the end of the assessment.
  • Once you've successfully completed the training and assessments, you can view and download your certificate, copy a direct link to it, or share it on LinkedIn.

Retake the Assessment

If you don't pass on the first try, you have unlimited attempts. You can retake the assessment immediately, or take some time to study and come back when you're ready. Click Take Again underneath your score to start a new attempt.
