Proof Digital ID
Proof Digital ID allows users to create a verified digital identity either anytime from their Proof dashboard without prior transactions or after completing four transactions with IAL2 verification, enabling faster future identity verification through a quick selfie and multi-factor authentication instead of repeating the full credential analysis and selfie comparison process.
The short answer: You can create your Proof Digital ID directly from your dashboard at any time — no completed transactions required. Once created, future transactions only require a quick selfie instead of the full identity verification process.
What is a Proof Digital ID?
When you create your Digital ID, Proof stores your verified credentials so you can skip the full verification process in future transactions. Instead of completing credential analysis and selfie comparison each time, you verify with a quick selfie — saving time every time.
How to create your Proof Digital ID
There are two ways to create your Digital ID. Choose the one that applies to you:
Option A: Create from your dashboard (anytime)
You can create your Digital ID at any time directly from your Proof dashboard — no prior transactions required.
- 1.Log into app.proof.com and open your account menu.
- 2.Select Create my Digital ID, then select Get started.
- 3.Verify your phone number using the 6-digit code sent to you.
- 4.Capture your primary government-issued ID, then take a selfie.
- 5.Confirm the extracted ID information and select Continue.
- 6.Select Save my Digital ID.
Your Digital ID card will appear in your dashboard sidebar once created.
Option B: Create during a transaction (after 4 completed transactions)
After completing 4 transactions on Proof and passing IAL2 identity verification, you'll be prompted to save your identity at the end of your next transaction.
When prompted, select the option to save your identity. Proof will confirm your IAL2 verification — including credential analysis and selfie comparison — before issuing your Digital ID card.
Using your Digital ID for future transactions
Once your Digital ID is created, you won't need to repeat the full IAL2 process for future transactions. Instead, verify your identity using multi-factor authentication and a selfie photo.
Multi-factor authentication is required when you initiate your own transactions.

A June 2026 report reveals that financial institutions' traditional identity verification methods—relying on secret information, trusted documents, and biometric authenticity—are under massive commercial-scale attack, with infostealer malware in 2025 exfiltrating over 1.8 billion credentials from 5.8 million devices (an 800% increase), leading to widespread circulation of valid stolen banking and payment card data on dark web marketplaces, fueling account takeovers, synthetic identity fraud, and ransomware attacks, thereby exposing the critical vulnerabilities in current security assumptions.
Introducing Persistent Identity: The Foundation of Repeatable Trust
Persistent Identity is a secure digital ID system that enables individuals to verify their identity once to a high-assurance standard, store it on the Proof platform, and reuse it across multiple online transactions and organizations via the Identity Authorization Network, thereby reducing inefficiency, abandonment rates, and trust erosion caused by repeated identity verifications in an increasingly digital and threat-prone environment.
Digital ID for Business Organizations
Proof's Digital ID for Business Organizations allows signers who complete four IAL2-compliant transactions to save their verified identity on Proof, enabling them to bypass full identity verification in future transactions by using multi-factor authentication and a selfie, and organizations must contact their Customer Success Manager to enable this feature.
Create an Identify Transaction – Proof Help Center
An Identify transaction in Proof allows you to verify an individual's identity without requiring a signature, using methods like credential analysis, IAL2-compliant verification with fraud agent backup, or knowledge-based authentication, and can be created via API or EasyLink by configuring transaction details, adding recipient info, and optionally notifying colleagues, with each transaction verifying one person at a time and resulting in a detailed identity report for fraud prevention in sensitive processes.
What is NIST IAL2 identity verification? | Proof
NIST Identity Assurance Level 2 (IAL2), defined in Special Publication 800-63, is a government standard that requires verifying the real-world existence of an identity and confirming the applicant as its rightful owner, providing a high degree of confidence suitable for remote digital transactions and widely adopted by federal agencies, private businesses, and state and local governments as a practical and robust identity verification method.
